Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Wheelabrator South Broward waste-to-energy facility provides dependable, environmentally safe disposal of municipal solid waste for Broward County Florida, while generating clean, renewable electricity for sale to the local utility. Designed, constructed, owned and operated by Wheelabrator, Wheelabrator South Broward processes up to 2,250 tons per day of municipal solid. Wheelabrator South Broward has an electric generating capacity of 66,000 kilowatts; the equivalent of supplying the electrical needs of 38,000 Florida homes.

Wheelabrator South Broward is a long-time supporter of SOS Children’s Village in Florida, which opened in 1993. The Village allows for brothers and sisters, who are typically separated while in foster care, to reunite and maintain their family connection. SOS also provides an After Care program to help young adults transition out of foster care after they turn eighteen. The Village provides these children with a safe, happy home and helps them heal from their past traumas, and gives them the hope of a better future. The goal of the SOS Villages is for boys and girls to break the cycle of abuse and neglect and realize their dreams.
