Located in Frackville, Pennsylvania, the Wheelabrator Frackville cogeneration facility provides dependable, environmentally safe disposal of the anthracite coal mining waste (culm) dumped and abandoned in eastern Pennsylvania, while generating clean, renewable electricity for sale to the local utility. Designed, constructed and operated by Wheelabrator, Wheelabrator Frackville consumes up to 500,000 tons of culm per year. Wheelabrator Frackville generates more than 300 million kilowatt-hours of electricty for sale to the local utility and produces over 60 million pounds of steam for sale to Pennsylvania's State Correctional Institution at Frackville.
