Wheelabrator’s Partnership with OSHA: Voluntary Protection Program
By partnering with the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Wheelabrator is continually reinforcing its commitment to worker health and safety through its participation in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). See how Wheelabrator's safety stats compare to those recorded for the entire waste-to-energy industry...
OSHA’s VPP certification recognizes the outstanding efforts of a company’s managers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational health and safety compliance. OSHA’s VPP Star Worksite status is given to facilities with three-year average injury rates below its industries average and must has demonstrated safety programs designed to greatly exceed OSHA standards. To achieve this, all Wheelabrator employees voluntarily commit to a comprehensive safety and health program exceeding basic compliance with OSHA standards.
Wheelabrator established a goal to have all 21 power plants become VPP Star Worksites by the end of 2006. At the end of 2006, all were certified as VPP Star or had been recommended to be Star. Currently, there are fewer than 2,000 workplaces out of the seven million regulated by State and Federal OSHA programs with this prestigious distinction.
As we grow and add more facilities to our portfolio we will continue to be active members in the VPP program and ensure all of our facilities are recognized as VPP worksites. Read about Wheelabrator Lisbon's OSHA VPP Spotlight...
