Located in Millbury, Massachusetts, the Wheelabrator Millbury waste-to-energy facility provides dependable, environmentally safe disposal of municipal solid waste for more than 30 communities in central Massachusetts, while generating clean, renewable electricity for sale to the local utility. Designed, constructed, owned and operated by Wheelabrator Technologies, Wheelabrator Millbury processes up to 1,500 tons per day of municipal solid waste. The facility has an electric generating capacity of 46,000 kilowatts; the equivalent of supplying the electrical needs of 57,000 Massachusetts homes.

Built in 1987 and surrounded by a mix of residential and commercial developments, Wheelabrator Millbury has a strong commitment to supporting the environment and community of Millbury. Whether volunteering to help build a Victorian Garden at the senior center, restoring the “Great Room” in the historic Asa Water Mansion Museum; or working to establish the state’s first inner-city wildlife sanctuary, Wheelabrator has, according to former Millbury selectman Harold Ostrowski, proven itself to be “a good neighbor.”
