OSHA VPP
Highest U.S. OSHA Distinction
“It’s been just phenomenal working with Wheelabrator (Technologies),” said Marthe Kent, OSHA’s regional administrator for New England. “It’s a world-class company with the kind of commitment that an OSHA administrator just can’t believe. Wheelabrator stands out, even among the best of the best in its industry, as a true leader and source of inspiration.”
Wheelabrator has achieved the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Adminstration's (U.S. OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Worksite status at 21 waste-to-energy and independent power production facilities. VPP Star is OSHA's highest national rating for voluntary safety practices, a distinction earned by less than .03% of the seven million regulated workplaces in the U.S. OSHA Star Worksite status is given to facilities with three year average injury rates below its industry's average and must have demonstrated safety programs designed to greatly exceed OSHA standards.
To achieve this, all Wheelabrator Technologies' employees voluntarily commit to a comprehensive safety and health program exceeding basic compliance with OSHA standards. Each employee is trained to do every task, every day, safely and on purpose. According to OSHA statistics, the average VPP worksite records injury and illness rates are 52% below the average for its industry because of its commitment to the VPP approach to safety and health management.
