Safety Excellence

Wheelabrator's Dedication to Safety
Our Commitment: Safety on Purpose™
Wheelabrator believes safety is the cornerstone for the company's success. Safety is the adhesive that bonds our operating principles together and is an essential ingredient necessary for achieving our goal of operational excellence. We believe every incident is preventable and we will provide the tools, training and time to perform every task safely. Nothing we do will be placed at a higher level of importance than our responsibility to protect the welfare of every worker.
Our employees are Wheelabrator's most valuable resource. We encourage the active involvement of all employees in promoting a positive safety culture. We believe working safely and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace is a condition of employment each one of us shares.
OSHA VPP Program
One of our most important priorities is to not only have all our facilities certified by Occupational Safety and Health Association as Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) sites, but to also maintain Star Worksite Status. A culture of safety and health are the foundation of the VPP process and all employees are involved throughout the entire certification process. Read more about our VPP Program.

IWSA and OSHA Alliance
As partners with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Integrated Waste Services Association (IWSA), Wheelabrator and other companies in the waste-to-energy industry, have formed an alliance to promote and improve safety for all waste haulers working at waste-to-energy facilities. As the first initiative in the Alliance, IWSA developed a safety campaign focused on the drivers of the trucks delivering trash to the waste-to-energy facilities. The theme of the campaign, "Safety: Do it for Life," focuses on workers’ families. The Alliance, originally signed in October 2005, and, after much success, was renewed again in 2007. The 2008 "Hauler Safety Month" kick-off event was held at Wheelabrator Falls. Read more about the IWSA and OSHA Alliance.
