Wheelabrator Frackville Energy Co. Inc. Supports the KidsPeace National Centers Family Program of Schuylkill Haven

Employees of Wheelabrator Frackville Energy Co. Inc. spent the last few weeks collecting holiday gifts for KidsPeace National Centers Family Program of Schuylkill Haven. New toys, clothing items and stockings filled with surprises for sixteen children as well as almost $100 were collected through the Wheelabrator employees' efforts. Wheelabrator also made a $400 donation toward the Center's holiday efforts.

Wheelabrator Frackville, located in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County, and its employees have supported KidsPeace National Centers Family Program of Schuylkill Haven through this fund drive for seven consecutive years. "We're proud of our employees for all of their hard work in continuing this tradition, and we are happy to be able to provide support for this worthwhile Program." said Plant Manager Ed Griegel. "

Wheelabrator Frackville Energy is a culm-fired cogeneration facility that produces steam and electricity. The 42 megawatts of electricity generated by the Plant, enough to supply the electric power needs of more than 36,000 homes, is sold to Penn Power & Light. The facility provides steam to the State Correctional Institution at Frackville to satisfy all of the Institution's heating needs. In addition to producing clean energy, since the Plant began operations in 1989, over 135 acres of abandoned mine lands have been fully reclaimed and re-vegetated as a result of its operations. The facility is also designated as a "Star" worksite by the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program as a model in the industry for establishing exemplary employee health and safety programs.

KidsPeace is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the critical behavioral and mental health needs of children, preteens and adolescents. KidsPeace offers a continuum of care, ranging from diagnostic services through residential or in-home care to intensive short-term psychiatric hospitalization.
