NH's Best Companies to Work For Announced
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, High Point Communications top Business
NH Magazine's list for 2004
MANCHESTER - Lebanon-based Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and High
Point Communications of Bow took top honors in Business NH Magazine's
8th annual "Best Companies to Work For" competition.
Dartmouth-Hitchcock, which is the largest non-government, NH-based employer
in the state, won the large company competition (more than 100 employees).
The hospital, with facilities across the state provides its employees with
top-level benefits, including an Earned Time Plan, where an employee can cash
out up to four weeks of time-off each year. High Point Communications, meanwhile,
drastically reduced the number of clients outside of New England to allow employees
to spend more time with their families. They took top honors for small companies
(100 or fewer employees). The competition recognizes companies that strive
to be employers of choice. Judges looked at workplace morale, benefits packages,
family-friendly policies, and other factors. Judges also visited the 20 semi-finalists
to tour their facilities and interview employees and top management.
For the second year, Business NH Magazine recognized Hall of Fame companies
that have been named to the list four out of five years. Companies named to
the Hall of Fame are: Hypertherm in Hanover; Nobis Engineering in Concord;
Northeast Delta Dental in Concord; Seacoast Harley Davidson/Buell in North
Hampton; Schleuniger in Manchester and Timberland in Stratham. Top executives
from the Hall of Fame companies and a representative from NH Businesses for
Social Responsibility served as judges for this year's competition.
"By highlighting the best companies to work for in New Hampshire, Business
NH Magazine has taken a leadership role in recognizing the importance of a
healthy and productive workplace. NH Businesses for Social Responsibility congratulates
all of the winners and especially the Hall of Fame companies for their sustained
efforts. The workforce in New Hampshire is fortunate to have so many great
employers," says Mariann Murphy, co-chair of NH Businesses for Social
