Wheelabrator's Symposium for Environment and Education
Wheelabrator Technologies Inc. feels strongly that responsible environmental awareness must be grounded in fundamental science with an accurate understanding of each community's social, political, and economic challenges.
Wheelabrator's Symposium for Environment and Education is a six-month learning
project for seventh and eighth grade students. The goal of the Symposium is to
create environmental and social awareness in today's youth and to be an educational,
rewarding, and fun experience.
The student groups consist of academic science classes, environmental clubs, discussion groups, science or social studies teams, or honor organizations. Beginning in the fall, and under the routine guidance of a designated educator and a Wheelabrator employee, participating student groups identify an environmental challenge in their community and develop a long-term solution that is economically and politically viable. The scenarios require a broad and realistic perspective on the two-way impacts of society on the environment, while enabling students to envision flexible and creative solutions to resource management decisions.
