Westchester
Located in Peekskill, New York, the Wheelabrator Westchester waste-to-energy facility provides dependable, environmentally safe disposal of municipal solid waste for Westchester County, New York while generating clean electricity for sale to the local utility. The Westchester facility processes up to 2,250 tons per day of municipal solid waste for 35 communities. At full capacity, the plant, which sells electricity to Consolidated Edison Company, can generate 60,000 kilowatt-hours of electrical energy per hour. This is the equivalent of supplying all of the electrical needs of more than 87,000 New York homes.
