Wheelabrator South Broward Inc.
Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Wheelabrator South Broward waste-to-energy
facility provides dependable, environmentally safe disposal of municipal solid
waste for Broward County, Florida while generating clean electricity for sale
to the local utility. The South Broward facility processes up to 2,250 tons per
day of municipal solid waste from the incorporated and unincorporated areas of
Broward County. At full capacity, the plant, which sells electricity to Florida
Power and Light Company, can generate more than 66,000 kilowatt-hours of electrical
energy per hour. This is the equivalent of supplying all of the electrical needs
of 38,000 Florida homes.
