Located in Lisbon, Connecticut, the Wheelabrator Lisbon waste-to-energy facility provides dependable, environmentally safe disposal of municipal solid waste for communities while generating clean electricity for sale to the local utility. The Lisbon facility processes up to 500 tons per day of municipal solid waste from both unincorporated and incorporated towns and cities in eastern Connecticut. At full capacity, the plant, which sells electricity to Connecticut Light and Power, can generate more than 15,000 kilowatt-hours of electrical energy per hour. This is the equivalent of supplying all of the electrical needs of more than 18,000 Connecticut homes.
